OpenAI rolls out a ChatGPT memory feature that references past chats for answers, starting with ChatGPT Pro and Plus subscribers, but not in the UK and the EEA

and That Changes Everything Rimjhim Singh / Business Standard : OpenAI rolls out ChatGPT memory update, now for pro subscribers only OpenAI : Memory FAQ  —  Learn more about managing your memories in ChatGPT. Markus Kasanmascheff / WinBuzzer : OpenAI Activates Recall Feature in ChatGPT for Personalized Conversations Across Chats Siddharth Jindal / Analytics India Magazine : Now ChatGPT Knows What You Told It Last Summer Rowan Cheung / The Rundown AI : ChatGPT now remembers everything Anthony Cuthbertson / The Independent : ChatGPT now remembers everything you say to it Aiko Gao Ishida / Tech in Asia : OpenAI adds memory to ChatGPT for personalized user experience Sam Skove / Politico : Tariffs in space? Er... maybe not Karandeep Singh Oberoi / Android Police : ChatGPT can now talk to you as if it's been your digital pen pal for ages Brent Dirks / MakeUseOf : ChatGPT Will Now Remember Your Old Chats So You Don't Have to Keep Reminding It Sabrina Ortiz / ZDNET : ChatGPT will remember everything you tell it now - like a real personal assistant Laurent Giret / Thurrott : ChatGPT Can Now Remember All Your Previous Conversations Jacob Siegal / BGR : ChatGPT can now remember all of your old conversations Matthias Bastian / The Decoder : OpenAI expands ChatGPT's memory to include full conversation history Imad Khan / CNET : ChatGPT Just Got a Memory Boost That Could Make Your Conversations Better Amanda Caswell / Tom's Guide : ChatGPT just got a huge memory upgrade — here's why it's a big deal Mayank Parmar / BleepingComputer : OpenAI wants ChatGPT to ‘know you over your life’ with new Memory update Alex Cranz / Gizmodo : ChatGPT Will Start Remembering More of Your Conversations (If You Let It) X: Sam Altman / @sama : we have greatly improved memory in chatgpt—it can now reference all your past conversations! this is a surprisingly great feature imo, and it points at something we are excited about: ai systems that get to know you over your life, and become extremely useful and personalized. @openai : Starting today, memory in ChatGPT can now reference all of your past chats to provide more personalized responses, drawing on your preferences and interests to make it even more helpful for writing, getting advice, learning, and beyond. [video] Sam Altman / @sama : a few times a year i wake up early and can't fall back asleep because we are launching a new feature ive been so excited about for so long. today is one of those days! Andrej Karpathy / @karpathy : @emollick Will GPT think worse of me based on that noob bash question I asked 7 months ago 😬 Ethan Mollick / @emollick : I totally get why AI long term memory is useful and, based on my testing, think many people will love it... but I actually don't want my LLMs I use for work to chime in with personal details or subtly change its answers as a result of my past interactions. Boundaries are good. Noam Brown / @polynoamial : Memory isn't just another product feature. It signals a shift from episodic interactions (think a call center) to evolving ones (more like a colleague or friend). Still a lot of research to do but it's a step toward fundamentally changing how we interact with LLMs. Sam Altman / @sama : openai usage has gone nuts over the past month. but a surprisingly cool thing is you can ask the internet “hey can we please get hundreds of thousands of more GPUs quickly” and...the internet will deliver. 🩵 Michael S Galpert / @msg : @sama This is the same mistake Facebook made with having one identity. Let me decide which identity should have which information. Otherwise you are asking people to talk to competitors re other parts of their life Bill Gurley / @bgurley : Important step. Will be interesting to see if the API players are able to do this as well. Or if it lives outside the API for most. Gary Marcus / @garymarcus : Incredible that this announcement was just more memory. I am sure that is useful for some customers, but it is hardly GPT-5. @elder_plinius : Trauma Bonding as a Service™ Sam Altman / @sama : rolls out today for pro users and soon for plus users. (except users in the EEA, UK, switzerland, norway, iceland, and liechtenstein. call me, liechtenstein, let's work this out!) Sam Altman / @sama : you can of course opt out of this, or memory all together. and you can use temporary chat if you want to have a conversation that won't use or affect memory. @openai : As always, you're in control of ChatGPT's memory. You can opt out of referencing past chats, or memory altogether, at any time in settings. If you're already opted out of memory, you'll be opted out of referencing past chats by default. If you want to change what ChatGPT knows @openai : In addition to the saved memories that were there before, it can now reference your past chats to deliver responses that feel noticeably more relevant and useful. New conversations naturally build upon what it already knows about you, making interactions feel smoother and @openai : The memory improvements in ChatGPT are rolling out starting today to all Plus and Pro users except in the EEA, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein. Team, Enterprise, and Edu users will get access in a few weeks. You'll know you have access to improved memory [image] Forums: r/singularity : OpenAI gets ready to launch GPT-4.1 r/OpenAI : OpenAI gets ready to launch GPT-4.1
