A profile of Mike Solana, a Peter Thiel protégé whose Pirate Wires newsletter and podcast became popular among “anti-woke” tech figures since the “techlash”

A powerful call to action from @JonHaidt: End the phone-based childhood now. The environment in which kids grow up today is hostile to human development. It's not too late to fix it for them. https://www.theatlantic.com/ ...

Inside Zuzalu, a co-living experiment organized by Vitalik Buterin in Montenegro in 2023, as the techno-utopian “Network State” concept inspires more projects

Silicon Valley has always dreamed of building its own utopias.  Who's ready to move in?  —  I.

In recent years, this ideology has only grown stronger, more self-righteous, more delusional, and—in the face of rising criticism—more aggrieved. We would all do well to pay much closer attention to it: https://www.theatlantic.com/ ... (3/3)

Silicon Valley's powerful companies claim to embrace Enlightenment values, but instead are leading an antidemocratic, illiberal, and authoritarian technocracy

Silicon Valley has its own ascendant political ideology.  It's past time we call it what it is.

The new technocrats are ostentatious in their use of language that appeals to Enlightenment values—reason, progress, freedom, optimism—but in fact they are leading an antidemocratic, illiberal movement. (2/3)

I finally wrote about something that I've been observing for quite some time. Silicon Valley clearly has an ascendant political ideology, and it's past time we call it what it really is: authoritarian technocracy. (1/3)

Meta's dramatic implosion, Elon Musk's Twitter train wreck, and Amazon's labor uprising show that 2022 was not just a disastrous year, but a reckoning for tech

Elon Musk is failing to convince people that Twitter is a town square, telling users what they can and can't say for a laugh and charging $8 for the privilege

The world's largest social network is internally grappling with an existential crisis: an aging user base  —  Earlier this year …

These documents leave little room for doubt about Facebook's crucial role in advancing the cause of authoritarianism in America and around the world. (5/8)

Internal documents show Facebook had no clear playbook for handling the dangerous content delegitimizing the US elections ahead of the January 6 riots

Facebook's rules left giant holes for U.S. election falsehoods to metastasize.  On the day of the Capitol riot, employees began pulling levers to try to stave off the peril.
