If I were an AR/VR dev right now, I'd be highly optimizing for Android XR (vs Horizon) Seems A LOT of devices are in the works with Android already, and there is very little incentive imo for a 3rd party to work with Meta over Google

Google's I/O keynote was both scary and chill, a fever dream of sizzle reels selling how AI changes everything, even search, and can give users superpowers

At its annual developer conference, the company seeks to reassure everyone that AI is for everyday utility — but the great disruption to the web continues

A routine reminder that OpenAI uses Meta's OSS AI framework (PyTorch) (the framing that Zuck went “all-in” on oss as some kind of recent company-wide epiphany is... misrepresentative) [image]

How Mark Zuckerberg made Llama a cornerstone of AI ambitions at Meta, whose smartphone-era services and products have been constrained by Apple and Google

Zuckerberg has pushed Meta to build Llama into all its products and services, including its Orion augmented reality glasses now in prototype stage.

Hands-on with Meta's Orion: needs a wireless processor puck, weighs only 100g, is packed with sensors, and has good eye tracking and a wide FoV for AR glasses

Meta paused the Quest Pro Apple pausing the Vision Pro to focus on a cheaper headset. Quest 2/3 is crushing meanwhile. The demographic for VR are not “pros” and the prosumer angle as a mass-market wedge was always a pipe dream. The VR generation is <15 year olds today

The headline might read negatively, but it's good news for Vision Pro: - # units in production for 2024 increased 30-50% due to demand - All expectations met, better-than-expected response from early adopters - ~1% return rate (same as iPhone Pro) - App ecosystem weak (fixable)

My mom called me last week asking if I saw the super cool new “Apple thing” (meaning Vision Pro). She knows I worked on AR/VR at Meta for years (and even tried my Quest) and did not immediately piece together that it's the same category of device. May be true for many consumers

People going nuts about the “bubble” Like Mistral, Imbue is an AI research company, not an applied AI company. Research is resource intensive and requires a lot capital to have any chance of succeeding— big rounds are the only way to play the game. Not sure if the game is smart

Absolutely stoked to be part of this! We're obv very long AR/VR and 3D content, 3D content creation requires a 3D-native design tool (like Figma in 2D) and @ShapesXR is already the backbone and industry standard for 3D design 🚀
