Thanks @GovKathyHochul for signing this bill (and @annakelles for being the champion to get it here). Rebooting dirty fossil fuel plants for crypto-mining is not consistent with the renewable future New York State needs. Grateful we have some time to chart a cleaner way forward. https://twitter.com/...

New York becomes the first US state to restrict crypto-mining as Gov. Kathy Hochul signs a bill imposing a two-year moratorium on permits at fossil fuel plants

National cryptocurrency industry groups had lobbied Gov. Kathy Hochul to veto the environmental ban, fearful that other states could follow New York's lead.

We shouldn't have needed a pandemic (or a hurricane) to recognize that deliveristas deserve better pay & dignity. But it did take bold organizing by #LosDeliveristasUnidos @workersjusticep to get us to this vote. Proud to work w/ them & colleagues on this landmark legislation. https://twitter.com/...

But even beyond the privacy, feasibility, and enforcement concerns (and there are many), it's not clear bluetooth apps will really work. So we will need to hire a lot of people to work on contact tracing. By definition, this is a local & state effort. https://www.theverge.com/...

A list of issues that make contact tracing an impractical solution in the real world, from trolling others to cheating to insufficient adoption

There have recently been several proposals for pseudonymous contact tracing, including from Apple and Google.

This is a terrible decision @NYCSchools @DOEChancellor. Our teachers, students, and families have put in massive amounts of work to stand up their classes. It would wreck the best parts of remote learning. To be honest, I hope teachers just ignore it. https://chalkbeat.org/...
