A US judge orders Ripple to pay a $125M penalty for selling XRP to institutional investors, well below the almost $2B the SEC sought in the case; XRP jumps 20%+

- Regulator had sought almost $2 billion in fines, penalties  — Ripple token XRP surges on court ruling but is flat this year

Gensler's SEC has become unhinged. This will not, and should not, go unnoticed in an election year, as the SEC singlehandedly thinks it's above the law, dragging the US further behind other G20 countries.

Filing: the US SEC told a judge that Ripple should pay $2B+ in fines and penalties for selling more of its XRP token since being sued by the regulator, and more

The regulator is slated to release a public brief on Tuesday, Stuart Alderoty, Ripple's chief legal officer, said in a separate post on X on Monday.

@Ripple This is an isolated incident, and Ripple wallets are secure / were never compromised. We've confirmed nearly all the affected funds were converted out of XRP. We're working with law enforcement and have been advised that a significant portion of funds have been frozen, and are...

Ripple co-founder Chris Larsen confirms “unauthorized access” to “a few of my personal XRP accounts”, after ZachXBT noted outflows of 213M XRP, worth $112.5M

Yesterday, there was unauthorized access to a few of my personal XRP accounts (not @Ripple) - we were quickly able to catch the problem and notify exchanges to freeze the affected addresses. Law enforcement is already involved.

On the other hand, plenty of miners are repurposing old coal & gas plants and not being responsible stewards of the amount of power they're increasingly using (jacking up energy bills for residents/sucking power from the grid regardless of overload). This is unacceptable.

Last year, I published an op-ed calling for Bitcoin to consider a move away from PoW to a low energy validation method. Today, I'd like to share an update on how my thinking has evolved on this front. https://www.bloomberg.com/...

Today's crypto industry is blessed with incredible talent, unlimited capital and is on a mission to make the world better. I truly believe it can turn this climate problem into a solution - what if miners were incentivized to remove carbon from the atmosphere?

Today, the US hosts ~40% of the hashrate. Climate-conscious miners like @GryphonMining, @ArgoBlockchain and @RiotBlockchain strive to use 100% renewables and be responsible actors (shutting off power when grids are overloaded, etc.). I applaud their efforts.
