Listening to ATP this week and I'm still confused about SwiftUI. Marco and Casey's experience sounds like mine — constantly hitting walls — but I also heard from people saying they've been working in SwiftUI exclusively for two years and have multiple production Mac apps.

Sources: Apple is working on VR versions of FaceTime and Maps, SwiftUI for AR and VR apps, and extending a Mac's display to its headset, bringing it into 3D

@stroughtonsmith Either way I'm glad for them to be doing it. It sounds like Google's iOS apps are about to get a whole lot better 😃

[Thread] Google's staff engineering lead for Apple's platforms says Google stopped using Material Design for iOS apps after almost a decade, in favor of UIKit

Jeff Verkoeyen / @featherless :

@stroughtonsmith I'm trying to understand what was missing in UIKit for the past 10+ years which necessitated creating their entire own UI toolkit in the first place when it worked for every other app on the platform. What was wrong with a UISwitch or UITableView five years ago but is okay now?

@lapcatsoftware These things are all demoed for executives and directors a bunch during development and they'll pick out really specific stuff they want changed. It's kind of wild to think Craig saw the Safari design was like “dope. ship it.”

No lies detected. It's not all the executives equally, but it's definitely Cook, and the others are willing to toe his line. Apple is willing burn developers over their 30% cut. It's ludicruous, short-sighted, and embarassing to watch. https://twitter.com/...

Apple insults developers by denying the value apps bring to iOS and ignoring the part marketing and developer reputation play in attracting people to apps

Apple's leaders continue to deny developers of two obvious truths:  — That our apps provide substantial value to iOS beyond the purchase commissions collected by Apple.
