Amazing conversation - especially enjoyed @satyanadella's story of the board room debate on the original investment in 2019. The best corporate venture investment of all time - and it was putting a billion dollars into a non-profit!

I met Dick Kramlich a couple of times while at Stanford - he was a founding father of venture capital, running the biggest fund at the time, and yet he always found time for would-be founders and jumped at the opportunity to get students hooked on startups. RIP, Dick Kramlich.

If Google buys Wiz for $23 bn as reported by the WSJ, is it: - Google's largest acquisition, because $23 billion? - or only 0.1% of Google's market cap and really not that big of a deal? All a matter of perspective. Hard to internalize just how big big tech actually is now.

Sources: Alphabet is in advanced talks to acquire cybersecurity startup Wiz for roughly $23B; Wiz raised $1B at a $12B valuation in May 2024

Deal would be tech giant's largest acquisition ever.

Never got a chance to meet Tom Alberg or see him speak, but growing up in Seattle, building startups and raising venture were synonymous with Tom and the firm he started, Madrona, with which almost all Seattle startups still intersect somehow. What a legacy. RIP. https://twitter.com/...
