By the way, this iPadOS 16 first build is rougher than most. I've been running into a lot of weird bugs. I wouldn't necessarily recommend installing it on your main device yet! I know you won't listen, but I can at least say I told you so.

Generally on the “how bad will my summer be as a developer?” scale, this was a pretty good WWDC. I'm guessing a lot of the iPad changes will work with the existing APIs for view size transitions. Nothing made me put my head in my hands, which is a big two thumbs up from me.

I've been doing a bunch of work in my Catalyst app to move beyond just a single window, using the existing UIWindowScene APIs. It occurred to me that if iPadOS does add a mode for multiple overlapping window support next week, my existing code might all just work. https://twitter.com/...

Comparing the 15.5 (1st pic) and 15.4 (2nd pic) firmware for the Studio Display camera. There's a _lot_ less noise, and a touch more contrast, but it's still quite washed out compared to the iMac Pro camera (3rd pic, taken last month). https://twitter.com/...

New Apple Studio Display beta firmware offers minimal webcam quality improvements, suggesting software is not the issue; the culprit may be the ultra-wide lens

@jsnell @terenceyan_ I tried recording a video directly from the Studio with QT Player and from my iPad Pro in the camera app, and it's pretty close, though the iPad is maybe a hair better. https://twitter.com/...

@raywongy It might be in beta, but I'm pretty sure Apple wouldn't have put it out unless it was as good as it was going to get.

@stroughtonsmith I should not have got my hopes up that they could significantly improve the quality with a software patch. It's less noisy, certainly, but there's still very little contrast in my testing, particularly compared to the 2017 iMac Pro: https://twitter.com/...

@aoverholtzer ... I'm pretty sure it started with the release of the new OSs - actually, I am sure I started hearing of iCloud syncing problems with the betas. If I had to guess, I'd say they rewrote something on the client side.

Apple says it is working to fix an issue that is preventing iPhone 13 Pro from running animations in third-party apps at 120Hz and limiting them to 60Hz

One of the biggest new features exclusive to the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max this year is the inclusion of high-refresh rate displays, or what Apple calls “ProMotion.” Sour...

@picsbyjameslee On an iPad Pro, you can request 120fps in SceneKit, and you get it. On an iPhone, it seems to be capped at 60fps.

Interestingly, while Dice can detect the 120Hz display of the iPhone 13 Pro Max, and I'm requesting 120Hz output from SceneKit, I don't see anything above 60Hz. Not so on an iPad Pro running the same code. I'm guessing/hoping that's a bug... https://twitter.com/...

There is a workaround for the 60fps frame rate cap on iPhone 13 Pro. Set CADisableMinimumFrameDurationOnPhone to true in your Info.plist. https://developer.apple.com/ ... https://twitter.com/...

Review of iOS 15 and iPadOS 15, which are now available: focus modes are great, Safari update is an acquired taste, and iOS' Dark Sky-style Weather is excellent

Apple's latest updates lay good groundwork, but don't add many big new features  —  iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 are strange updates.
