NEW: Sony no longer plans to release PlayStation games on PC, sources tell Bloomberg News, a major shift in strategy that sees the console maker returning to exclusivity after six years of flirting with multiplatform.  —  Ghost of Yotei and Saros are not coming to PC. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

Sources: Sony no longer plans to release its big single-player PlayStation 5 games on PC, a major strategy shift that sees it returning to console exclusivity

One important piece of context here is that when someone buys a PlayStation, Sony doesn't just get their $500+.  The company also gets 30% of *everything* they buy on the PlayStation Store.  In other words, Sony makes the most money by getting as many people as possible on its consoles

NEW: I took a trip down to Obsidian Entertainment to talk about their stunning 2025, in which they somehow shipped three games.  They were remarkably candid about their successes, their failures, and their plans for navigating the future.  —  For Businessweek Magazine: www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

A profile of game studio Obsidian, which Microsoft acquired in 2018, as it seeks to shorten development times and cut costs after releasing three titles in 2025

Microsoft's Obsidian Entertainment is searching for ways to make games more quickly and on smaller budgets.

Obsidian shipped three games last year: Avowed, Grounded 2, and Outer Worlds 2.  Grounded 2 was a hit, but the two RPGs were not, leading to some self-reflection.  How to make games in 3-4 years rather than 6-7?  This story may be a case study for the entire industry www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

The timing of this new profit margin target certainly lines up with the $69 billion Activision purchase, but it also lines up with Microsoft's pivot to generative AI, in which the company has invested many billions of dollars
