Matt Mullenweg responds to DHH's claim that “Automattic is doing open source dirty”, pointing out Rails' own trademark policy and taking some jabs at 37signals

RE: https://www.threads.net/... Casey Newton / @crumbler : The number of ad hominem personal attacks against DHH in here that have nothing to do with the issue are extremely tellin...

Reading people claim that Google's Magic Editor isn't a problem reminds me of how Facebook was surprised at the suggestion that anyone would livestream a murder, only for the Christchurch shooting to happen just a few short years later https://www.theverge.com/...

this was a real labour of love for @seanhollister and myself, two people who spent their years lusting after every render of the Optimus Maximus posted to Slashdot back in the 00s.  The keyboard was by all accounts absolutely terrible, but we were amazed to discover through our reporting …

Does anyone really want a Rabbit R1 and the LAM it's promising, or do we just want our actual apps (the ones that Rabbit claims the R1 will control on our behalf) to be designed better?

Rabbit R1 review: $199 is the right price, fun design, and a good mic, but the best features are all MIA, finicky and slow, and using a phone is better

@crumbler I'm a little sceptical of this given the regional availability of Meta's AI stuff at launch (I don't have access in the UK for example).  I agree it has the potential to lead in distribution, but I struggle to believe it's there just yet https://blog.whatsapp.com/...

Oh my god the EU doesn't care what proprietary connector the Vision Pro uses to connect to its battery pack.  And it doesn't care what proprietary connector the AirPods Max headband uses to connect to its earcups.  Stop it.

Because the second you can view Threads posts via another ActivityPub platform is the second (as I understand it) you can view Threads posts via another ActivityPub client.  So even if Mosseri and co. have no interest in optimizing Threads to be a real-time news platform, app developers can build the functionality to make that happen

Mark Zuckerberg says Meta is testing making posts from Threads accounts “available on Mastodon and other services that use the ActivityPub protocol”

I've been as big a Facebook critic as anybody, but this is a good thing.  And reflects that we're entering a new era of the open web, with a chance for things to be more interestin...

I have to admit I care less about the whole “seeing Mastodon posts on Threads” bit, and more about what federation means for the possibility of effectively sneaking third-party Threads clients in the backdoor
