Researchers say Meta is failing to moderate dangerous content on Facebook in Kenya, citing failures in AI as well as linguistic and cultural expertise gaps

NAIROBI — The shooter approaches from behind, raising a pistol to his victim's head.  He pulls the trigger and “pop,” a lifeless body slumps forward.

in my *personal* opinion, this is like how when regulators who don't fully grasp how tech works mandate certain things, it leads to more mistakes & lower quality decisions bc people who actually do the work race to make policy clarifications/workflow changes to support the optics https://twitter.com/...

one of many reasons why I'm very into org structure and design and how that manifests in real world impacts. This is especially important in Trust & Safety, integrity, and anti abuse spaces.

Proposing a ‘harmful content coaliition’ is a great PR move for TikTok and Bytedance, but ultimately a bit hypocritical since to my/public knowledge, they're not in any existing coalitions?? https://techcrunch.com/...

How TikTok's UI, focused on just one auto-playing video at a time, generates clean user-driven data thanks to its “algorithm-friendly design”

In my previous post on TikTok I discussed why its For You Page algorithm is the connective tissue that makes TikTok work.

Great interview by @CaseyNewton with Zuck. “I view the work in this area as akin to the same kind of first-responder work that other health workers or police have to do in order to make sure we're helping people quickly.” #DigitalFirstResponders https://www.getrevue.co/...
