The piece is about a wonderful game, of course, but also the fading dream of premium mobile, Apple's role in marginalising these experiences (having once championed them), & the way we've all been pulled deeper into the “machine zone” over the past decade. https://www.theringer.com/...

Monument Valley, arguably the definitive gaming experience on the iPhone, is 10-years old. To mark the occasion, I reported for @ringer on how @ustwogames optimized for beauty and quality rather than analytics, monetization, and attention capturing. https://www.theringer.com/...

A scene as still and pure as it is confounding: towers stretching up, flags billowing gently in the wind, stone walkways appearing to defy the principles of architecture. Mastodon:...

@LLoombe ... Another reason for thinking about Netflix and games on this kind of time frame: Cloud gaming, according to @JNavok, is simply not up to the task yet. His prognosis caught me off guard, and cuts through a lot of the hype surrounding the technology. ☁️ https://www.theringer.com/... [image]

After DVDs and streaming, Netflix gears up for what appears to be its third and most ambitious act: video games, with 67 in its library and 86 in development

@LLoombe ... Netflix is not approaching video games like Google. This is a long-term process, not least because “big” games now take ~ five years to make. @ballmatthew compares the company's games push to its streaming drive which took the best part of a decade. 💿 https://www.theringer.com/... Streaming, strikes, and video games. It's an interesting time to write about Netflix, to say the least. For @ringer, I dug into the company's burgeoning gaming effort — where it's at, where it intends to go, and what the fallout could be. https://www.theringer.com/...

Big news: Embracer is embarking on a “restructuring program” in the wake of that collapsed $2 billion deal. Note the “closing of studios and termination of projects” and an increasingly “centralised” operations. https://embracer.com/... [image]
