It's kind of annoying that the United States government is basically abandoning progress on climate to preserve car jobs but the only real innovation in the car industry in ~ 50 years is specifically focused on killing car jobs. Make it make sense. https://www.washingtonpost.com/ ...

If Tesla does one great mitzvah, it will be alerting the politicians who are supposed to care about human lives and safety that there are functionally no vehicle safety regulations in the United States, because the car makers are the regulators. https://www.washingtonpost.com/ ...

Experts and lawmakers say Tesla's largest recall yet is unlikely to solve Autopilot's fundamental flaw: Tesla failing to limit where drivers can use the feature

This is just damning for autonomous vehicle tech & truly a “bad news” story. Things should never have gotten this bad. I sure hope the AV sector does some soul searching. Worry less about skeptics who work for safe streets, more about fixing your tech. https://www.nytimes.com/...

Sources: GM spent an average of $588M a quarter on Cruise in the past year, up 42% YoY, and staff intervened to assist Cruise's vehicles every 2.5 to five miles

Cruise has hired a law firm to investigate how it responded to regulators, as its cars sit idle and questions grow about its C.E.O.'s expansion plans.

Totally dishonest statement from SFMTA. “Our sidewalks are crowded, and our regulations reflect that.” No they don't. Your sidewalks are crowded because your regulations prohibit wider sidewalks, because wider sidewalks make drivers angry. https://www.sfchronicle.com/ ...

Bird ends its operations in San Francisco saying the city's fines are five to six times higher than any other city and “has the most onerous regulations”

scooters in the Bay, blocking sidewalks, in encampments, and ridden by children, no helmets, and wobbly tourists everywhere they shouldn't be. ⁦@Gregster56⁩ https://www.sfchronicle...

“Autonomous cars,” “self-driving cars,” “robot cars” — whatever you call them, they do not exist, will never exist. This has been one of the bigger scams I've seen the car industry pull. It was maddening to watch as otherwise smart people fell for it. https://www.bloomberg.com/...

Uber was never going to be a viable business. I think I have a tweet from ~ 2014 saying as much, but cars simply don't, can't, will never scale *but for* your ability to lose oodles of money, every year, forever. https://twitter.com/...

If the United States had any traffic safety enforcement at all, Elon Musk would be arrested and tried for reckless endangerment, fraud, and criminal liability for any deaths and injuries that result from this. https://www.washingtonpost.com/ ...

Tesla begins letting drivers request its “Full Self-Driving” beta, prompting criticism from regulators and safety advocates

a seeming recipe for disaster. Serious safety concerns should put this reckless plan in reverse. It's Russian Roulette for unsuspecting drivers & the public. https://twitter.com/.....
