One example of something I couldn't believe Claude Opus 4.5 could generate until it did: a full-on MIDI mixer as a terminal app, written in Rust. [video]

Why Claude Code is much more than a coding agent: it is a general-purpose AI agent that can do almost anything a user can on a computer, with impressive results

I can confirm Grok 4.1 has effectively no content filters: even on the web UI which should have its own safety prompts, it's *extremely* permissive and I suspect that the other safety filters in its model card can be defeated. Also, wtf at those next prompt suggestions. [image]

How did “Sora 2 is too expensive” surprise OpenAI? They imposed no meaningful generation limits and and “very small audiences” is literally the point of an invite-only program. [image]

Sam Altman

Sam Altman says OpenAI is planning two Sora changes for rightsholders: granular controls over generation of their characters and a revenue sharing system

We have been learning quickly from how people are using Sora and taking feedback from users, rightsholders, and other interested groups.

Sam Altman says Sora 2 has to make money but there is no revenue model that can feasibly offset a $4-5 compute cost per video.

It is trivial to prompt engineer any LLM to behave like a celebrity.  The difference here is that even though LLMs are RLHFed to be syncophantic, getting them to *flirt* and send sexy images is a very intentional product design decision that could have been caught during QA if it was not desired. …

The problem is that there's no technical method to “shut off” nude generation for a LLM, other than a) moderate the text input to see if the user is trying to generate nudes or b) moderate the generated output.  —  Then that gets into the “what counts as nude?” debate which has been reoccuring for FB.

Grok 4 tl;dr: benchmarks are very impressive but their CEO just eroded any trust in those benchmarks and the Nazi incident (which went ignored) makes actually using Grok in an app a professional liability.

Sam Altman claims an “average” ChatGPT query uses ~0.34 watt-hours, or 1+ second of oven use, and ~0.000085 gallons of water, or “one fifteenth of a teaspoon”

Jay Peters / The Verge :

Sam Altman just gave ChatGPT's cost-per-query of 0.34 watt-hours: the first time a number has been given in terms of recent LLM power usage and is obviously much lower than the 3 watts still cited by detractors, but there's a lot of asterisks. [image]

OpenAI's o3-pro is much smarter than o3 and amazing at using tools, but the model requires a lot of context to run well and without enough it tends to overthink

OpenAI dropped o3 pricing 80% today and launched o3-pro.  Ben Hylak of Raindrop.ai returns with the world's first early review.
