The Anthropic-DOD skirmish is the first major public debate on control over frontier AI, and institutions behaved erratically, maliciously, and without clarity

@terronk This is not a reasonable characterization of what is happening. It isn't a matter of punishing companies for not sharing political views, it is a rational response to a vendor trying to control the government via terms of service in the products they power.

The real bank for real Americans doing real things! The cutting-edge business model is based on next-gen concepts like “don't let your client's money disappear”, “care at all about national security”, and most importantly, “the market sometimes goes down”.

Palmer Luckey's Erebor becomes the first newly created bank to receive a national charter under the second Trump administration, launching with $635M in capital

If you are interested in learning more, I talked with @tbpn about Erebor last year while it was still in stealth. We are opening on a Sunday (a first for a US bank) to highlight our 24/7, 365 operation and service. https://x.com/...

Notice how Fat Jason's statement very carefully avoids the topic people are actually talking about, his ongoing relationship with and aid to a convicted child rapist and sex trafficker well into the 2010s.  Instead, he is still pretending it was all decades ago...

The US DOJ releasing emails between tech industry notables and Jeffrey Epstein kicks off a renewed flurry of acrimonious social posts and lurid news coverage

The Department of Justice has released more than 3 million documents and photos related to Jeffrey Epstein.

. @Jason said 10+ times that he only knew Epstein in the 90s.  He was actually helping Epstein through the 2000s and 2010s, even after the child sex trafficking conviction.  Man starts VR company, donates to Trump: “Total moron, no moral compass!”  Man rapes children: “hey pal!”

@jmdagdelen I am aware, and I am also very much aware of how most independent developers feel about that particular team. It isn't fair to put all the blame on individuals vs overall strategy, but there are very few people who think highly of the org or how it was built in recent years.

Meta's VR layoffs may help the industry long term, as most of the ~1,500 roles worked on first-party content and games that competed with the broader ecosystem

I have an opinion on the Meta layoffs that is contrary with most of the VR industry and much of the media, but strongly held. This is not a disaster. They still employ the largest ...

The people acting like I am some stooge who will obviously agree with everything Meta does need to read a history book or something, jfc Oculus had a strong internal mandate to NOT be Nintendo and instead build things that build the ecosystem. Returning to that is good.
