While this is interesting work, it is worth noting that LLMs had the lowest avoidance and highest error rates on things on which they are not typically trained: anagrams and mathematics. Neither are well-suited to general-purpose LLMs, and are not typically in the corpus.

Study: newer, bigger versions of LLMs like OpenAI's GPT, Meta's Llama, and BigScience's BLOOM are more inclined to give wrong answers than to admit ignorance

Nicola Jones / Nature :

Like humans, LLMs gain delusions of grandeur as they are trained on more data: they attempt more questions that they shouldn't (lower avoidance), which increases the likelihood they get things wrong. Larger and more instructable language models become less reliable | Nature

Eric Schmidt could say “1 + 2 = 3” in public and I'd be reconsidering my prior confidence in “3” being correct. There is this new video of him on AI and the future, and his glib comments on Canadian hydropower alone nearly made me lose my mind.

While the much-noted market cap losses at Nvidia are striking, even if temporarily, it is worth remembering what a boom/bust industry the semiconductor industry can be. Example: Intel is poised to make major layoffs later this week, according to Bloomberg.

Why dangerous? Because it must spend aggressively for a future that it cannot predict, while funding said future with current weakened operations, meanwhile watching its currency (INTC) become less valuable, just as the cost of semiconductor fabs soars.
