Useful clarification on what Bluesky requires for parody accounts!  I suspected this from observing how my reports get handled but it's good to have the confirmation.  (Dealing with parody accounts is such a fucking pain.)  [embedded post]

Bluesky now requires parody or fan accounts to label themselves as such after a researcher found 44% of its 100 most-followed accounts have a doppelganger

Parody and fan accounts will have to clearly label their profiles.  —  Bluesky has updated its impersonation policy to be …

Facebook sidestepped it for a while because of the size of its platform and the incredibly invasive targeting and profiling system they built. (And by straight up lying to advertisers.) No one else ever has. I've been saying it's unsolvable for a very long time.

Sources: Twitter laid off dozens of sales and engineering staff last week, as Elon Musk demands the site's ad targeting work like Google search ads in one week

He keeps laying people off anyway.  —  Dozens of Twitter employees across sales and engineering departments were laid off last week …

Ads perform badly on social media as opposed to search because search is a one and done action and you can be distracted from it after. Social media is ongoing and distractibility is low. No one has ever solved this problem.

The saddest thing when reading resignation tweets from #lovewhereyouworked is how many people have been at Twitter for 8, 10, 12 years. The sheer amount of institutional knowledge Elon is driving away is incalculable. Thank you to everyone who's leaving for everything you made.

Remember how I said Twitter couldn't figure out how to make its image cropping algorithm less racist so they just got rid of cropping and some of y'all insisted there was an innocent explanation?
