I've long said that trying to use Monero (or any privacy-preserving cryptocurrency) as a “tunnel” for privacy between transparent cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin or Ethereum is pointless. Law enforcement investigations continue to prove that point. [image]

Filings and DOJ officials describe how a gang threatened, assaulted, and tortured 11 victims in likely the worst crypto-focused serial extortion case in the US

More than a dozen men threatened, assaulted, tortured, or kidnapped 11 victims in likely the worst-ever crypto-focused serial extortion case of its kind in the US.

All Samourai websites down, Gitlab down, coordinator down, can't even mix via Sparrow. A sad, sad day that has me shocked and in disbelief. But we won't stop fighting for our privacy.

While I love the concept, this feels like a really bad use of resources when the Tor network is broken AF due to an ongoing DDoS attack, especially when there seems like a workable solution in PoW for circuit creation. https://blog.torproject.org/ ...

This is actually a huge deal, both for Apple users and for Google users as it will inevitably cascade to other companies who are competing with Apple. Very surprised they actually pulled the trigger on this. https://www.wired.com/... Great thread on it below 👇 https://twitter.com/...

Apple plans to launch Advanced Data Protection, offering E2EE on iCloud backups, Notes, Photos, and more, in the US in 2022 and globally including China in 2023

‘Advanced Data Protection’ will offer end-to-end encryption on iCloud backups, Notes, Photos and other services—a step that may draw ire from law enforcement

1) The smart contract is able to be called/used regardless of this, interestingly enough 2) #1 is why protocol-level/decentralized privacy is stronger than centralized/coordinated Not advocating breaking a sanction, just commenting on technical details. https://www.coindesk.com/...

The US Treasury sanctions crypto mixing service Tornado Cash and 44 related ETH and USDC wallets, citing their use in high-profile hacks, such as by North Korea

- The Treasury is sanctioning DeFi mixing service, Tornado Cash.  — The move is the agency's second sanction of a mixing service. Source: U.S. Department … .

Another important note — Ethereum's piss-poor privacy on-chain w/o tools like Tornado Cash means the US gov will have immense visibility into who enters Tornado Cash pools. Same issue exists with using Samourai Wallet on Bitcoin — it's clear when you choose to use it.

This is... another good reason to avoid DuckDuckGo IMO. It shows that DuckDuckGo is willing to sell out your data for money from Microsoft and not tell anyone about it. If you're still using DDG, consider trying something else ASAP! https://twitter.com/...

On the one hand, breaking the narrative that only criminals use cryptocurrency is great. On the other.. I wonder how incorrect this is due to them not being able to trace #Monero and so excluding the majority of DNM usage. Monero is not mentioned at all. https://blog.chainalysis.com/ ...
