If the platform is denying HK protesters a voice-which looks likely-then it's denying them visibility to celebrities and other important people jumping on TikTok who might boost their cause. It's also denying them a way to reach out to other people their age from around the world

And if that doesn't seem important, think about all the causes these days—from gun control to climate change—where people under 20 are making a difference, in part because of their ability to connect across geographic lines with new forms of social media.

Second, TikTok isn't on most people's radar screen right now because it's most popular with people under 18. Since that group doesn't vote, it's not an important political platform. But that will almost certainly change!

First, TikTok wouldn't provide any executives to talk on the record about how it does political censorship outside the PRC, despite statements by company executives confirming that it *does* censor such content, and a concerning lack of content related to the HK protests
